So tonight I decided to try out Ubuntu 13.04 on my ultrabook by installing it on the unused internal SSD drive after dealing with several kernel panics on 12.04. So far it's much more stable and because it's on the SSD, it boots fast! I like it so far...
Hi, I have Ubu 13.4 with gnome and kde as well as unity (which I continue to dislike) and also Mint 15 cinnamon on a touchsmart envy 15. I have some issues with webcam (could be just skype, lots of bad things happening since MS started messing with it), the fingerprint reader (I'm going to try debian and the latest from kernel.org this weekend), but most annoyingly I find the touchscreen support a bit lacking. Unity is horrible, not recognising taps as clicks etc. and nothing seems to have multi-touch. I've found that gnome is the best on Ubu, but for work I'm using Mint. Just seems all-round better. (touchscreen becomes unuseable when 2nd monitor plugged, but not a problem for me, touch is for laptop, not workstation.)
ReplyDeleteSince you did this a couple of months before me, If you have come across any issues/Tips, Please post, I'd like to know, and I'll let you know how it goes with deb. Cheers
Thanks for your comment. Ubuntu 13.04 is still working great for me on the HP Touchsmart. I agree that touchscreen support is lacking, but I'm ok with that. It's something i just don't see as important on a laptop.
ReplyDeleteI also used to use Mint but moved away when they starting the Cinnamon project.
